Now there has probably been a number of you guys who have heard of this game and if you have you should definitely pick it up.
For any of you who happen to be Super Smash Bros. fans and always wanted a Ds port of one then this is the game for you. Its a pick up and play style game with plenty of your favorite Anime/Manga characters from the world known Shonen Jump comics. It has a playable roster ranging up to about 40 characters such as the likes of the older Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura from the Naruto Shippuden series, Goku and the crew from Dbz, Luffy and the rest of his Strawhat Pirates from One Piece, and Yugi from the popular Yu-Gi-Oh series. The fights take places on what seems to be a comic book panel that also comes from a corresponding manga such as Planet Namek and the Hidden Leaf Village. Buttons are quite simple, there is your weak and strong attacks that can be mixed with a combination of up,right, and left sort of like Smash Bros., a jump button, a special button that can be used with the up button for a second special attack, holding down on the d-pad will make your character block, while L and R can be used to switch characters or use your helping characters which I'll explain more later on. This screenshot shows you exactly how battle look in JUS.
The top screen shows the actual battle while the bottom screen shows your "deck". There are three types of panels or as the game calls them" komas" that can be put in your deck. There are the 1 block panels called the help komas which can boost a character when placed next to them on the deck screen. The 2-3 panel komas are the support komas which are characters that come out for a few seconds and either attack other players, heal you, or just plain do nothing that can help you. the 4-8 block komas are the actual characters that you can use in the fight aka battle komas. In your deck you need to have AT LEAST 1 of each style koma but you can put a deck full of one battle komas and 1 support and 1 help koma or quite the opposite.
As for gaming modes there are 6 modes in the game, Adventure, Arena, Multiplayer, Quiz, Deck Creation, and Level up.Adventure Mode-
The adventure mode isn't anything like Brawls sad to say. It has a kingdom Hearts feel due to the world traveling but not adventurous is it might sound. Once you get to a world it gives you various missions to chose from such as a protecting mission, defeat every opponent mission, or collection mission. Playing this mode can help you gain more characters for battle, support, or help.

The J-Arena mode is basically that mode where you can just fight and train for the hell of it. It contains a ranking mode where you fight pre-made or custom decks from your friends or from wifi and aim to be number one. There's also Mission try where you can re-try all the game's adventure mode missions that you have completed over again for a better score. In batle you can just pick a deck and an opponent and jump straight into battle very simple. The last one, training, is very self explanatory.Multiplayer/Wifi-
In multiplayer you can do a single card or multi-card game with up to four friends and battle it out. You can trade decks with your friends to see what their battle style or strategies might be. In the wifi mode you can fight three other people using the same rules from the regular game and not like brawl where its only two minuet timed matches. With friends online you can even use voice chat to communicate with them.Quiz Mode-
This mode you will have to unlock but it's basically a mode that tests you on your knowledge on the series that come from the Shonen Jump Universe.Deck creation-
As said before there are the three types of battle komas that can be placed in a deck. The creation mode is where you put the komas together to create a deck that you can use for battle.Level up/J Evolution-
In J Evolution you can level up the characters obtained in adventure so that they can be used for a support or a battle koma. You obtain points or gems in adventure which can help level up each character to their full koma. when unlocking a koma it starts off as a one panel. Then as you use gems to level it up it will become better and more useful komas.
All in all Jump Ultimate Stars for the Nintendo Ds come out to be a pretty good game BUT, the problem is that you would have to import it because the game will not come to america due to licensing issues. So if you really want this game i suggest you do what I did and import it or get it off ebay.
In my opinion Jump ultimate stars earns a 9.1 out of 10
